CHILDRENS BJJ CLASSES:

Ground Zero Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/Huntington Martial Arts Academy is starting a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) program for children ages 7-13. The program will be based around a philosophy of self defense and non-violent conflict resolution. Kids will be taught basics of Judo, positional BJJ, and defense oriented submissions of BJJ. Sparring in BJJ involves no striking which provides a sustainable environment for active applications of learned techniques. BJJ is gender neutral and was developed with the mindset of a smaller individual being capable of defending him or herself against a larger and stronger aggressor using principles of leverage and momentum. The defensive quality of BJJ yields itself immensely valuable to all facets of a child's development.

The sole uniform requirement is a BJJ or Judo gi/kimono. They are similar to typical martial arts kimonos but are typically thicker and more durable due to the nature of grappling arts. Links where these kimonos may be ordered can be found at the bottom of this note. If attaining a uniform prior to enrollment is unfeasible, simply have your child wear a pair of exercise shorts and t shirt until a uniform can be provided. The use of a gi requires any practitioner to focus exclusively on technique and is critical for a full development of conceptual understanding.

Classes will begin at 5:00p.m Wednesday, February 10 and will continue thereafter every Wednesday and Friday at 5:00p.m. Additional classes may potentially be added according to demand. Ground Zero gym membership is $60.00 monthly but we are running a special of $50.00 monthly for the first three months of a child's membership. Families with multiple children may talk to me personally about price differentiation.

Our goal as martial artists is to instruct a peaceful community of cooperative individuals. With this goal in mind, a few base guidelines will always be observed within our school. Any physical aggression outside of the academy will NEVER be tolerated. The nature of martial arts is ultimately the avoidance of conflict. The practice of martial arts is preparation for when such conflict is unavoidable. Also, the martial arts become
useless if their application is limited to the confines of our academy. As such, we expect our students to cultivate their minds with the principles they are taught within our school and apply such development to all aspects of their life: school, family, friendship, etc.

The primary instructor for the children's class will be myself (Cameron Knight). Other instructors will include Benji Pyles and Thomas Uylenbroek. All of our instructors are highly successful BJJ practitioners on both a competitive and personal level. I am a certified purple belt instructor under black belt and UFC veteran Jorge Gurgel. Benji and Thomas are both incredible blue belts under Ashley Lockwood, the primary instructor of our adult BJJ classes.

If you wish to sign up for classes or have any additional questions you may contact me personally at (304)412-1224. Our adult classes run every weeknight from 6:00-8:00p.m., and correlating mornings (excluding Thursdays) from 10:00-12:00a.m.

Please, enlighten whomever you think would be interested in this opportunity. I thank you sincerely for your time.

Keep in mind that the pricing of kimonos has little to do with its durability and function. A child's kimono that costs $50.00-$60.00 maintains the utility of more expensive kimonos. Also, avoid Gracie Barra kimonos. These are kimonos specific to the Gracie Barra team of competitors, of which we are not a part.
